Join the Wanganui Surf Lifeguard Services Whanau!

We welcome new members to join WSLS in a range of membership options.

Whether you're wanting to get involved on the beaches in a patrol capacity, get your kids involved in our Junior Surf programme or you're one to support us behind the scenes, there's a membersip option for everyone. 

General Membership

As a 'General Member', you'll join the WSLS whanau as a full member as an individual...

• Have voting rights at the AGM (if you're under 16, you'll need to have a parent/guardian with you)
• Can stand as an executive board member or apply to hold operational portfolios (16yr plus). 
• Apply to join in an operational capacity (Lifeguard, Patrol Support or SAR role).
• Have access to loan equipment (Boards etc).
• Represent WSLS at Surf Sport Events (Juniors must be signed up under the Family Membership). 

Note: Please do not use 'General Membership' soley to sign up a child who is participating in Junior Surf, you'll need to have a family membership - see more below. 

General Membership is set at $50.00 per person for the 2025/26 season.

Family membership

Under this membership, you'll create a 'family membership profile' with WSLS - it's the simplest way to manage your family within our membership system. 

At least one parent/guardian must be a 'General Member' to be able to register their child for the Junior Surf Programme.

The same fee applies as General Membership ($50.00). All subsequent members added attract the same fee.

Apply as an Individual Member:

Use this option if you're:

• Wanting to be involved with WSLS as an individual General or Associate Member
• Are a current individual Surf Lifeguard or Patrol Support member
• Hold current individual WSLS Life Membership
• Not participating in the Junior Surf Programme

Apply as a Family:

Use this option if you're:

• A couple wanting to be involved with WSLS
• A family involved across WSLS for example, Mum (General Member), Dad (General Member), 16yo (Lifeguard) & 9yo (Rookie)
• A family involved in our Junior Surf Programme parent/guardian of children that are registering to take part in the WSLS Junior Surf programme. 

Note: At least one parent needs to hold 'General Membership' to be able to use the Family Membership option and to have a child/ren actively involved in Junior Surf. 

You'll need a Surf Lifesaving NZ Member Number too... 

If you or your child is going to participate in sport events (pool rescue, carnivals etc), youll need to  have a Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) Member Number - these are generated by clicking here.

Current members can update their SLSNZ Member number from previous emails or from logging into the SLSNZ website here.
